Koala's March

While our day was hardly jampacked with adventure and excitement from assorted activities...it still was interesting. Today began like a typical Saturday.  Mind-numbing, inconsequential errands.  Yep, two wildly insane gals reside in this apartment.  Next thing you know...one of us will be running around here with a pair of scissors or removing labels from the mattress!!  Perhaps someone should intervene before we wreak havoc.  I'm sure there's a mailbox or stop sign just dying to be stolen :-)  City of Portland, watch out for us!!  Don't ever say you haven't been warned.  Living on the edge, that's our motto!  But....please stay tuned!  Tonight's meal was very delicious and perfect for one!

Our first trip to the dog park this afternoon began like all others.  It was a dazzling, sunny day and E.V. and I had every intention of soaking up the sunshine, which we did until our trek home....but I'll get there, eventually :-)  Upon arrival, E.V. was eager to lie in the tall grass and enjoy her surroundings.
Breezy E.V.
"Yeah, mom...I love the feel of the wind in my face...it makes me feel like a supermodel!"
She then proceeded to roll around on her back in the grass.  Once I get my memory card, I will be sure and take a video.  It is quite a precious sight.  She rolled and rolled, and then rolled some more.  That is, until another dog showed up. Pretty much that is all it takes to scare her out of the park.  Another dog.  Even if it's a teacup Chihuahua.  She's petrified.  But, we're working on that!

We set off for home.  While walking back we passed my car and E.V. decided that we'd just hang out there.  My tires hadn't been sniffed by her in at least four hours, and overdue for a good sniffing.  Eventually she ended up lying in the road next to my car.  I couldn't get her to budge.
"This pavement is scorching, but I just cannot bring myself to leave."
I pulled and pulled and tried everything in an attempt to lure her home.  But to my chagrin, she wasn't about to go anywhere.  That's when she started to really freak out and crawled under the car to hide, for reasons unknown to me.
"This makes a much better dog cave than the one at home.  I have so much more headroom!"

Ultimately, we did make it back home, which seemed to be eons later.  Just in time to begin dinner!!  Tonight was super scrumptious, easy and affordable.  Furthermore, it is a shout out to my peeps back home, Yo! :-)  This evening's meal consisted of a cheesesteak and salad.  Ideal for a hot summer night and making good use of leftovers!
Authentic Cheesesteak....with side salad

The cheesesteak was a collection of leftover steak from last night and also included onions and provolone cheese.  We must not forget the mayonnaise.  Perhaps THE greatest condiment on the planet.  Yum.  Yum.  And triple Yum!  Typically green peppers and mushrooms are included, but alas, I had none.  The beauty of this is that I used one of the breadsticks, which was perfect for a smaller, light meal!!  My side salad was romaine lettuce, shredded carrots,  sliced olives, prosciutto bits and some croutons.  I cheated on the dressing and used some from a bottle.  Don't tell anyone...it's rather embarrassing....but sometimes a gal just needs some 1000 Island Dressing.  Just promise this secret will remain between you and I....no one else can know.  It would immediately ruin my reputation.  Not that it was great to begin with...but still :-)

One of my most favorite parts about dinner is taking part in the dessert which follows.  I despise baking cakes, cookies, pies and such.  So my dessert is 99.9% of the time something purchased.  Customarily, ice cream (thank you Ben & Jerry for bestowing upon us Phish Food.  THE BEST!)   Tonight's dessert....Koala's March cookies!

Absolutely delicious!  Love, love, love the packaging!

Only to be found in one fo the world's most amazing grocery stores....Uwajimaya.  That place has the most exceptional, unique and unusual products.  I could spend hours and hours lurching about the aisles!  As well as hours and hours and hours talking about it, too!  Here are the cookies still in the packaging.  Heavens, even the packaging is utterly adorable!!

Being these cookies are so scrumptious, they did not remain in the packaging for much longer.  As soon as I snapped the photo I was tearing into them as though I hadn't eaten in weeks!  Here are the cookies.  Again, the preciousness....couldn't you just die?!?!?!
"Aren't we the sweetest things you've ever seen?!?!?!?"

As always, thank you for joining me as I share my cooking endeavors for one!  Make sure you get some of these cookies!!  You should also make a cheesesteak.  I'm just sayin'. Have a great evening!
