Yes..I got way off track. This time I blame those cool boots Catwoman gets to wear. Totally not my fault. I'm easily distracted..Again, it is something on which I am working. Eventually I'll be OK. Perhaps...maybe.. It is Thursday. I spent my evening with the homeless cats at PetSmart in Tigard. Boy, were they glad to see me! Before you ask...no it wasn't because they admired my personality or my humor or my flip-flops. It was because the person who was to have gone in this morning never showed up! Those poor things were trapped in squaller all day...it was disgusting! I'll just say ick and double ick. I took no photos. I didn't have any time. In case you were wondering, they are now all safe and sound AND clean....
Little E.V. had to stay behind as the temperatures neared 90...not an ideal condition for a dog in a black 4-runner...We did have a little snack earlier in the day.
One cannot beat cheese and crackers. Not to mention...I actually remembered to buy crackers! Yay for memory and crackers, of course!!
E.V. is all about cheese and crackers. They're the bee's knees....just in case you didn't already know that!
"C'mon, Mama...ya gonna share! I have bones to chew and such...I don't have all day!"
She is SUCH a nag...I did make up my crackers...complete with mustard and Italian Salami. Yum and YAY for food!!
I am unable to find the words....they just speak for themselves.
Dinner this evening was light and required minimal cooking. Virtually zero cooking, actually. It was sooo hot today. Felix the fan has cracked under the pressure to keep me cool. I know, I'm already 'cool,' hahahahahha, but in the other sense. He fell over the other night. I suspect it had something to do with the four martinis he had at dinner. Regardless, his blades are all weird...and he looks quite ghetto at this point. We're having 'the talk' tomorrow. I didn't want it to come to this, but I have been left with no choice!
Shall we get back to dinner...I made a steak salad with some of my leftover roast beef from the other night. Turning on an oven or a stove or any sort of appliance that generated heat was not an option.
An important component to the salad is candied hazelnuts. Put a little sugar and water in a pan with hazelnuts and cook until they are caramelized...
Absolute, total Yum!
Here are the ingredients of my salad...
Iceberg lettuce (again, it's the first purchased bag since 2001...not as pretty as leaf lettuce but excellent...save the lectures!), blue cheese, steak, carrots, candied hazelnuts. Perfect for a hot summer day!
I topped it with a super-secret, special dressing....
Hahaha...not really...I have no secrets. I have a big mouth. I can't keep secrets! But, I did make a dressing. Bottled dressings are ick. Ick..I like that word. It's my new favorite word and can be used in so many situations! Shall I introduce the dressing..
Ginhonsoydi Dressing...bad photo, though...
Hahaha...again, I just invented that name! Yet another indication that I possess too much free time. It contains honey, dijon mustard, mayo, ginger, soy, garlic, onion powder and pepper. All to your liking, of course.
E.V. loves, loves, loves steak salad!! She's an animal, literally! But aren't we all??!!??!
"Sooo, Mama, ya gonna share a bit of that salad with me????? It appears to be rather tasty! I'm merely an independent observer." Next thing I know, she'll be selling Mary Kay cosmetics!
You know me...I'm a total sucker for a sweet face. She ate half. Well, maybe a bit more than half...but it was mostly lettuce. That's not a bad thing. Stop me now...as I will attempt to justify my actions to the bitter end if given the chance!
Aside from melting in the heat and eating, I have been trying to dry my extra herbs...They are sprawled out on my bar...since it is never in use..
Grumpy Smurf is the watchkeeper...and a highly trained spider sniper. I have a way with Smurfs...ask anyone! I can convince them to do virtually anything. It's all about my Jedi mind tricks, yet another gift.... This will get us through winter...I feel so 'Little House on the Prairie!'
Well, I have more than over-shared this evening. Sometimes there are little things in life that can provide inspiration. I'm just saying... Merely throwing things out into the great wide open....in the hopes that one day 'that guy' will come along and make my day...all ten fingers are crossed, and that is hard to do!! In the meantime, E.V. and I are off....we continue to listen to MMMBop and do a little finger dance. It's ugly....no photos would ever be available. Thanks for joining us...We'll be here tomorrow.
