I was up at my former house today to obtain some tomatoes, fresh herbs and berries. It's like a Farmer's Market in your back yard. This week I will be making a tri-berry coulis. I did use some of my fresh ingredients for this evening's meal. I also, following the request of a devoted follower, took a zillion photographs of the process. I had once lost my attention to detail, but baby, I've got it back! Watch out!
Shall we explore my harvest...
Cherry tomatoes. Colorful and beautiful!
Fresh Basil. It smells heavenly and tastes the same.
I also harvested thyme and oregano. No photos are available because I am a terrible photographer and still have not read my manual. It's a rather ugly situation. I would prefer to no address my inadequacies until tomorrow. It is the weekend.
I also was able to scrounge up some of the micro-green rejects! They're so pretty!
Even my less than stellar camera skills cannot ruin their appearance :-)
"Mama...no offense..but I have been subjected to viewing your hideous pictures for the past two months. I quit! I can't take it anymore. The pain....it causes me to cringe!"
She's such a supportive sort of gal! Actually, she's a big crab-head because it's so hot here for the first time all summer.
In introducing these fresh herbs and vegetables into the household, we also brought along a hitchhiker so to speak..One that was completely unwanted and unappreciated...
This is creepy spider. He was creepy, and a spider. Ick!
I hate spiders...I do like Spider Man, but that's probably because Toby Maguire played Spider Man and wore the costume well. We'll leave it at that... Anyway, I wanted to capture this spider on film before his unfortunate death. Sorry. I couldn't help myself, and I would never be able to sleep alone knowing he was lurking about this apartment, so I quickly squished him in a tissue. Please do not report me to PETA or the SPCA. Arachnids=Creepy-creeps. Not happening..
"Mama...you should have thought twice about killing an innocent spider. What if he had a wife...children...a career...a tee-time on Monday...what's gonna happen now???"
At least he won't be creeping around here..now if we could have negotiated a payment of rent and a contribution to utilities, things may have gone in another direction.
Aside from being a spider assassin, I cooked. It is why I still keep my day job. There aren't enought tissues in circulation to rid the world of spiders on a fulltime basis.. We had seared scallops with balsamic glaze and pasta. Angel-hair pasta with roasted cherry tomatoes, basil ribbons, parmesan curls and garlic.
Cherry tomatoes sliced in half, tossed in herbs, garlic and olive oil. Roasted for 20 minutes. My 90+ degree apartment wasn't hot enough...so I felt it would be a great idea to turn on the stove... Oh, the regret...
Once they were roasted I assembled the remaining pasta ingredients..
Aren't they beautiful!?!?!?!
While the pasta cooked (I felt no need to capture that boring incident on film) I seared my scallops and reduced the balsamic.
Tossed in a mixture of flour, herbs, garlic and pepper. Seared in equal parts olive oil and butter for a perfect crust!
E.V. was feeling quite negelected as I was relatively consumed in my cooking duties. That is probably a good thing...it kept me out of trouble...for now, anyway! The night is still young..hahahaha.
"Mama...you promised!" Isn't that the sweetest face ever!!! Makes a mother's heart just melt on the spot..
After all of the work, we were finally able to eat some food. I have yet to decide if that was a good or a bad thing, considering the heat...however the scallops were so delicious!
Taaaa-dahhh.. Finally, microgreens are back. Oh, my sweet microgreens how you have been missed.
In all honesty, because I typically lie like a rug...hahahahaha. No, seriously, I preferred the appearance of the scallops over that of the pasta. But, the pasta was pretty tasty as well...
At least E.V. was sweet enough to assist in the after meal clean-up..
"No need to pre-rinse, Mama...I've got it all under control!"
Thanks for joining us. I know I had mentioned my new wall friends and the fact I would discuss them in detail ...today was too hectic.. I will fill you in later this week, but trust me, they are a total hoot! Have a great evening!
